1.   Church Corner – Janet Sturges

Janet Sturges presented the most recent plans for the Church Corner. The design will provide parking for the Congregational Church, add/upgrade sidewalks, and improve pedestrian safety and traffic flow. After review, the HDC asked for the following changes to the plans:

1. On the south side of the Ferry Road/Lyme Street corner: a) remove the 3 bluestone pavers from the bumpout and replace with grass,  b) remove the 3-4 bluestone pavers in the corner near the pedestrian crosswalk (the walkways will then form a simple right angle where they meet at the corner) and replace with grass.

2.  On the south side of Ferry Road paint the Fire Lane lines white instead of yellow.

3.  On the north side of the Ferry Road/Lyme Street corner, as well as around the corner onto Ferry Road, install two “No Parking Here to Corner” signs to safeguard pedestrians using the painted crosswalks (instead of two painted areas).

4.  On the east side of Lyme Street, next to the Parsonage driveway, install one “No Parking Here to Driveway” sign to keep the painted crosswalk open (instead of having a painted area to indicate a no parking zone).

5.  On the east side of Lyme Street, south of the Parsonage, investigate with the engineer the feasibility of moving the curb back to provide a clear view of the pedestrian bumpout.

6.  On the east side of Lyme Street, south of the Parsonage (in front of the walnut tree), move the sidewalk forward to the curb to avoid damaging the roots of the tree.

7.  The HDC would like to design the 15 MPH sign, in keeping with the style and design of the historic property plaques throughout the HD, to be placed at the entrance to the HD on McCurdy Road. Note was also made of retaining the original granite carriage step (at the Congregational Church) in a new location and checking to see if the existing storm drain on the east side of Lyme Street in front of the Parsonage could suffice rather than excavating for a new drain to the east that might damage tree roots.

Jim Bechtel moved to accept the Church Corner plan with the changes outlined in the minutes. The motion was seconded by John Forbis and passed unanimously.

2.  Adjournment

Jim Bechtel made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 11:20 P.M. The motion was seconded by John Forbis and passed unanimously.

      Respectfully submitted,

Martha Hansen
